Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) announced today that the Union Church Chancel Choir has been invited to participate in a performance of “The Music of Mark Hayes,” November 26th, at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Ben Whaley-Jones, one of our amazing youth leaders, was part of a team at the Appalachian Media Institute that created this 13-minute documentary on Black Lung Disease; it has been nominated to go to the Sundance Film Festival! I write with the sad news that our beloved bard and troubadour, Andy Blyth died early this morning (July 27, 2017) at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Andy had been hospitalized with breathing difficulties that turned out to be problems with two valves of his heart, one of which eventually sealed closed. Sue and more »
