Prayer for the Week: October 25, 2015

The blind beggar in this week’s Gospel lesson from Mark 10:46-52 asks to be able to see, to have his sight restored. Rev. Kent preached the sermon “Bearing the Light” acknowledging the challenge of both carrying the light of love to others, as well as being able to endure the transformations that answered prayers sometimes bring. Here is the prayer offered by worship leader Grace McKenzie that followed the sermon. May the light surround you and give you strength and hope for all that the world demands of us.

When the darkness around us closes in, strike the light, kindle the flame, and open our eyes. When the shadows inside us gather in clouds of depression or despair, widen our vision and gentle our sight so that light might pour through the rain. And in those days when our heart is light, and our soul is full, grant that we too, might bear your light to others, and be a welcome gift in their sight. May we carry the light of love in our hands, and bear the cost of joy gladly, following the one who brings us both.  –Rev. Kent Gilbert
