Rev. Kent Quoted in Story on Clergy Advocating in Nation’s Capitol

Rev. Kent spent time this last week attending Ecumenical Advocacy Days, a gathering of clergy and lay members of diverse denominational background. They gathered to learn, pray, and act on behalf of our Christian commitment to the most vulnerable in the US and in the world. A story about this public witness appeared yesterday in the United Church of Christ news feed, and features pictures and quotes from Rev. Kent and others who had a meeting with Mitch McConnell’s office asking for greater access to voting and voting rights for Americans in light of recent setbacks to the Voting Rights Act, the 15th amendment, and other forms of voter suppression.

They also asked for consideration of the “Global Fragility” act that would use US influence and money to prevent developing crises in fragile areas of the world. This bi-partisan bill would also make use of church and other NGO entities who often have far better intelligence and access to vulnerable situations than do either military or political envoys. The GFA would bring all the players together in an effort to coordinate pre-emptive responses to crises, whether they be military, economic or caused by natural disaster.
