A note from Carla – Take Time for Matters of the Heart

I was on deck for the meditation for the Church Council meeting following the weekend of our Healing Arts Retreat in which we explored meditation using the practices of Tai Chi, Chinese Calligraphy, and Bamboo painting. It was a “time out day” which I truly needed to spend some time exploring an art form I have had the necessary materials for nearly 8 years and which have desired to try my hand at for a long, long time. One might say it was a matter of my heart to do so.

While searching through the many pieces of paper which naturally collects around me, (like dirt and dust for Linus in the Peanuts comic strip), I came upon the image on this post which fit perfectly, an excerpt from a illustrated lecture on Chinese characters by Ed Young. I thought it offered food for thought to the leadership of our church to offer a balance for our individual lives, but also to suggest how we might practice such wisdom in ordering our church life together.

Now that I have learned a little Chinese Calligraphy, these characters and their meaning will take on more life as I try to copy the characters and meditate on them in my journey toward wholeness.

Some say that “coincidence is God’s way of remaining unknown” I like to think that many coincidences might better be termed God-cidences, if there is such a word…. For surely this was an example of God-cidence if there ever was one.
